A typographic identity for an independent creative studio. Bold letterforms, shifting proportions and a black and white palette turn a single word into a distinctive visual system.

Give design a distinct voice

DESIGN is a concept identity for an independent creative studio. The brief was to make its point of view recognisable across a website, presentation materials and campaign graphics. The direction places typography at the centre of the identity, turning the studio name into its main visual asset.

The challenge was to give a single word enough range to carry a complete system. The solution uses changes in proportion, repetition and framing to create variation while keeping the same unmistakable black and white signature.

Build the image out of type

Heavy letterforms become the composition. Narrow and expanded characters sit alongside one another, creating a rhythm across three closely spaced rows. Cropping at the edges suggests that the pattern continues beyond the frame.

The letters retain their character as their proportions change. Wide forms give the composition weight; condensed forms introduce a faster rhythm. Black space separates the rows and keeps the dense arrangement readable.

  • Use black and white as the core palette.

  • Vary letter width and scale within a consistent row structure.

  • Keep supporting information separate from the expressive display typography.

  • Adapt the crop to the format while preserving the rhythm of the composition.

Carry the identity across formats

The cover brings the typography close enough for individual letters to become abstract shapes. The laptop application reveals the wider composition: a structured arrangement of repeated words with a clear horizontal rhythm. Both views belong to the same system, but work at different distances and scales.

For digital applications, the graphic acts as a strong opening statement. Navigation, project descriptions and contact details use a quieter typographic hierarchy, giving practical information room around the display artwork.

The system is designed to extend into presentation covers, social posts and printed material. Each format receives its own composition instead of a scaled copy of one layout. Consistent contrast and letterform treatment connect the applications.

A compact system with room to vary

One word. A recognisable visual language.

The concept brings together a typographic signature, a repeatable graphic pattern and examples of its digital application. Vector artwork keeps the forms crisp as they move from a small screen to larger surfaces.

Guidelines define the relationship between display type, supporting copy and negative space. The result is an identity that can introduce new projects and messages without losing its character: direct, expressive and built around the work of design itself.
